Read more »I set my file permissions in the format of "rwxr-xr-x" or 0777, etc. Once and for all, what should the permissions be for the "default" directory and the settings.php file after the installation is complete? Is it the same for D6 as for D7?

Hi! My Drupal was somehow set up on the same domain, as a subdomain, but from a different root folder from my primary URL.
So instead of deleting the addon domain, and re adding it with the root folder of the drupal install, we copy/pasted all of the files (since its the same server) into the original root folder, not the one the test site had been developed on.

I have a few small local community sites using 1and1 as my provider. As I was adding a new site I pick up on something that makes me a bit uncomfortable. I was setting up the backup-migrate and when setting the default backup location I used ../backup. Read more »I have installed many cms sites before but I have never had this much trouble. I am currently trying to install D7. I have alway's used an app called appserv that installs appache, php, mysql etc very easily. Normally I just upload "in this case drupal" to the main sites directory. Create the database, and run the install. It has been a little while since doing this but today I am trying to install D7 for testing for my work.

I installed a new module called Date field... it sounds really great but it didn't work for me, because the drop down for selecting a widget is disabled... first I thought the module is broken, so I disabled it and tried to select a widget for other fields... but it's also disabled. I can change the widget on existing fields, but when I try to add a new field, I can't.
Does anyone know, why this happens? Thanks :)

Read more »I've installed Drupal many times, but I've never come across this problem. I know that when you are running the install, you need to chmod the /sites/default/files and sites/default/settings.php so that apache can write to it. I usually just change it to 777, then when the install is complete, change it back to 775. But right now, this permissions error is coming up.

I have installed Drupal and the Drupal folder is in my file manager under public_html, however when I put my site address in the browser it takes me straight to a 'index' page which is a plain white page apart from a list of folder names which are the same as the ones in the public_html folder. If I then click on the drupal folder I am taken to my site! How do I sort this out!?

I uploaded Drupal 7.1 to public_html directory. I turned off register_globals. Now I'm trying to install the database. In CPanel I added a database. I then added a user with a rather complex password and added it with all permissions to the database. When entering the info on the database page it returns the following error:

Sorry if it's in the wrong section but I thought this best matched it from the options I could see.
So my issue is:
I have my original drupal installation at /www/Drupal6
with a website installed (working perfectly)
So i decided to try out Drupal 7 so I created /www/Drupal7 (gave it a different database username etc)
got this working perfectly
now if I go to my website in drupal 6 the theme doesn't show unless it's a base theme (6.22) but all the content is there?
any suggestions?

Although it is going to change the title of a site by [Administer]->[SiteConfigration]-> [Siteinfomation], if saved, it will return to the title before change.
Is this because the database is not updated?
It was useless even if it cleared all the cash by [Administer]->[SiteConfigration]->[performance].

I managed to install Drupal 7.10 in Ubuntu and installed several modules and all works fine. Now I need to host in the same Drupal installation more than one site (I follow one of the several tuturials available in the web).
In the sites folder I renamed the default to mySite and then copy it to have mysite1, mysite2, and so one...
The problem is as soon as I rename the sites/default folder I cannot access the drupal site any more.

I am going through the 6.2 to 7.1 upgrade. Everything seems to be pretty smooth except for I am unable to get my taxonomy to update, which in turn causes issues with content being displayed accurately.

Installed in a directory called drupal/ went fine until I tried to change the colors in the theme bartik.
After the change a authenticated or unauthenticated user sees white backgrounds.
I installed the fix-permissions.sh script http://drupal.org/node/244924 and ran from shell, which killed my install, the could not view anything inside the dir.
recieved not auth errors.
Had to delete the directory drupal and re-install.

i run a drupal commons and in these days i try to set it up on a new server. well i heard that there were two
htaccess-files.
are there really two fines which are totally the same (equal to each otther - that means - they are identical)
note: the one that is in the drupal - root i have to replace - since this one breaks the installation - at the very
beginning. this htaccess was replaeced by another one -which is shorter and has not as many opitions-
but - lemme know - is there another htaceess in the drupal commons
