Help us on the road to better Drupal documentation

http://drupal.org

For the last few months myself and quite a few community members have been working on a larger vision for our beloved Drupal documentation. It has taken quite a bit longer than I had hoped, but I want to put out a draft of an initial "roadmap" for documentation that outlines our bigger issues and an approach to tackling them. I've attached a document which has everything we've hammered out so far in a 10 page document along with three appendices.

Next steps for Drupal 7 usability

http://drupal.org

Improving the usability of Drupal is very important. Yesterday, I wrote about the progress that was made on Drupal 7 usability -- the community has made a ton of incremental improvements, while Mark and Leisa have been preparing mockups and wireframes that provide significant over-arching improvements to Drupal's ease of use. Combined, I believe these efforts could make Drupal 7 a great release.

Zappos.com and Drupal

When Zappos.com needed a content management system for its ever-growing content, it looked to Drupal after it was showcased at SXSW '08. Zappos.com built its first Drupal site, About.Zappos.com, as a way to test the features, capabilities and development effort of a Drupal site. With that project Drupal successfully showed itself to be both flexible and customizable and therefore a good fit for Zappos. Since then, Drupal has played a larger role at Zappos in a multitude of projects.

Copying voice quality audio with Rhythmbox

http://deekayen.net

I spent some time trying to figure out how to make files small enough to put an entire audiobook on my 1GB MP3 player with Rhythmbox. The default CD quality MP3 settings for Rhythmbox made the book too large, so I spent some time figuring out the special GStreamer pipe for sending the audio to lame for lower quality conversion.

In Edit - Preferences - Music, edit the Preferred format. Add a new one named "Voice Quality, MP3". My description is "Target 80 Kbit/s for variable bitrate copies."

Sharing data with another site

http://drupal.org

Hi,
I created a CCK with has title, body, and filefeild which captures mp3 file. This is used to make a small audio collection. I want to share this collection with another site where they can search, display, and pay the files insite. What is the best way to do this?

Im trying an rss feed right now. I pulled it in from the other site, but the data output needs formating. I want the mp3 to load in 1pixel player, and want the layout formating to be different. Can RSS feed be formated? Can RSS feeds be loaded into a CCK?

Thanks so much!

I've enabled the user profile core-optional module so I see the options for creating new fields for users, including the option for a static select list. What I need though, is to get that select list to populate dynamically from a list that the site administrators can set up. Specifically, they need to be able to assign the new user to a "group" field, which will then limit access to only that group's projects.

Posts in multiple groups

I'm building a site which will allow people to organise events, the group is the event and the posts are the details they may or my not require (location, equipment, accomodation etc).

The idea was that the content type 'Accomodation' for example which in itself is a location node, could be re-used in a new event (group) later on. That way tehre is only one copy of the specific accomodation location to keep up to date.

When a new group is created, there is a link to create Accomodation in the OG Group Details Block but tehre is no link to attach existing accomodation.
