This is not your father's Internet. When the Web was first emerging onto the scene, it was simple. Individual web pages were self-contained static blobs of text, with, if you were lucky maybe an image or two. The HTTP protocol was designed to be "dumb". It knew nothing of the relationship between an HTML page and the images it contained. There was no need to. Every request for a URI (web page, image, download, etc.) was a completely separate request. That kept everything simple, and made it very fault tolerant.

Ben Lavender: Is W3C going the wrong direction with SPARQL 1.1?

The W3C SPARQL working group (previously the Data Access Working Group) has recently released their first versions of the updated SPARQL standards, or SPARQL 1.1. The group's roadmap has these finalized a year from now, but they have asked for comments and I suppose these are mine.

Presentation: The Apache Web Server at the KW Linux Users Group

On Monday Sept 14th, Khalid presented on the Apache Web Server at the Kitchener Waterloo Linux Users Group (KWLUG).
The presentation starts with an overview of the HTTP protocol, then shows off Apache's market share and popularity, as well as use within the top 20 web sites worldwide. Then it delves into the details of installation and configuration, ending with performance and security.
