drupal in subdirectory, path settings problem

http://drupal.org

Hi experts,

one of the biggest providers in Austria makes it impossible to install drupal with clean URLs in the Docroot of a vhost, because the provider needs the URLs /admin and /user for his own admin interface. I know it's stupid - but I cannot change it and my client want's to use the hosting he's already paying for. I have already made some drupal installations there without the following problem:

I've developed a site for the client on my local environment and finally wanted to put it on the public host. I simply put it in a directory 'subdir' - resulting in URLs like www.example.com/subdir/user. Now, the site gives me a white screen - in the watchdog table I found some entries like path not found:

Unable to access ./sites/all/modules/views/includes/base.inc";s:5:"%file";s:64:"/var/www/html/subdir/sites/all/modules/views/views.module";s:5:"%line";i:540;

I've changed the base path in settings.php and put RewriteBase /subdir in the htaccess file. With no result. I've cleaned the caches after each try.

Now, as the installation in subdir worked on my local environment - I think, the solution for my problem might be found in the settings of apache httpd.conf or in php.ini. But I have no clue, which setting I should change. Can anybody give me a hint, please?

Thanks, anschinsan
