Diggit Drupalextras

I get the following message in my status report:

"Your server is capable of displaying file upload progress, but does not have the required libraries. It is recommended to install the PECL uploadprogress library (preferred) or to install APC."

It has a link to the library, so I'm able to download it, but can anybody tell me HOW to INSTALL it??

I've googled this and I keep finding command line instructions - but I have no clue how to do that. I'm running Drupal 6 and it's hosted on BlueHost.com

Upload progress Not enabled
Your server is capable of displaying file upload progress through APC, but it is not enabled. Add apc.rfc1867 = 1 to your php.ini configuration. Alternatively, it is recommended to use PECL uploadprogress, which supports more than one simultaneous upload.

I downloaded the latest PECL uploadprogress, unzipped and copied into sites/all/libraries.
Restarted apache2 to no avail.
I am running a LAMP server on Linux Mint 8 (Helena), Gnome, 64 bit.

I have recently just upgraded my website from 6.14 to 6.15 and got everything back to normal but in my status report near the bottom it says my " "Upload progress" is Not Enabled and that It is recommended to install the PECL uploadprogress library (preferred) or to install APC." I downloaded the PECL files and tried putting them in the modules folder but that did not do anything, Can anyone tell me how to Enable this feature?

I'm planning on allowing people to upload pretty large files so I need to let them see the progress of their uploads:

CKE (2007) will not be installed properly. In ... sites/all/modules/ckeditor.. it is to be seen but not in Modules section (Theme ZEN. Drupal 7 rc4). Other modules are ok (Pathauto, Mollom, IMCE etc..). I have also disabled them as one instruction requested.

"Empty Drupal and browser caches" says some instruction. Browser done BUT WHERE IS DRUPAL CACHE located an how to empty it?

Are there any alternatives to the PECL upload progress bar? I have tried searching for weeks, but can't find any good alternatives.

Or, probably a workaround the server issue.

I uploaded my localhost /drupal folder to hosting site and found that my drupal duplicated one already there. So now I seem to have some configuration problems with paths. I had some problems searching for solutions on this site so would appreciate any links and direction you old hands can provide.

ImageCache Temp Directory /Applications/MAMP/tmp/php is not writeable by the webserver. (I assume it's still configured for my local Applications folder but don't know where to change it on the server, or it I can)
