I am a new Drupal 7 user that has got a Virtual Machine up and running with the help of Drupal Quickstart. I am not a programmer. I have watched some YouTube tutorials and I bought a book. I am just changing the look and function of my first virtual sites.

How do I get more themes and modules into my virtual machine for Drupal to use. Most of the support posts and instructions are way over my head, please keep it simple if you can.

I have downloaded items to my host machine. Where/how do I install or copy them to use them on my VM?

Any other tips or directions?

I use Drush, and poke around in my host server a lot. Develop drupal right out of my host's server.

How would this project benefit me? Is it so that I can run Drush properly in a window machine. Install drupal in a specific directory where this project is installed and act just like it would on my server? My host uses table prefixes, would that cause me problems when uploading?

I know I'm revealing myself as the Newbie of Newbies here, but in a search of the documentation here and the book I'm using (Drupal 7, The Definitive Guide), I could not find a clear indication.

I installed Quickstart 0.8 according to the directions here http://drupal.org/project/quickstart but when I try to start it I get the following error message:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Quickstart 0.8

Unknown error creating VM
(VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED).

Any ideas?

I host a few website under a reseller banner and am giving up doing this. I have one site which is Drupal and I want to find a host which includes making sure the site is upgraded and backups done automatically (and of course restore them if necessary). The client is a charity and are totally non technical. Any suggestions (in the UK) as to a suitable host (maybe charity orientated)?

I previously used cPanel with a Web Host Manager account and had transferred all but 3 Drupal websites away to a new host.
Now the WHM no longer works, but my sites continue to operate. I would like to move these sites but my control panel login details will not work.
The hosting company has rubbish support and I would prefer not having them accidentally killing the sites completely.

Can anyone help?

I hope I've posted this in the appropriate place and am looking for some guidance. I'm new to Drupal.

I've got a Quickstart installation working and noticed some differences in files and permissions between example6.dev and my live site domain directory. I'm wondering if these differences will create problems depending on if I use the live version of my Drupal site in Quickstart, or should I begin inside Quickstart and upload that version to my service provider. What are some recommended best practices?

I need to create a Drupal development site on my laptop so I can develop without tampering with the online production site.
I've been reading the Drupal.org documentation and forum topics for this, but I'm unclear on what steps I need to take.

The host is an apache server running on CentOS 5 and the Drupal site uses a MySQL database.
The Linux guidelines in the local server documentation only gives instructions for various distributions of Ubuntu.
I looked at XAMP and the Quickstart Drupal Development Environment, but I still don't know what I should do.
