I learned that a company we hired to build a new website based on Drupal is relying on contributed modules, some of which are in dev, alpha, beta states. This worries me because if we have to update these modules in the future for security or bug fixes we may have problems because of incompatibilities.
The company says that it is considered normal practice to build commercial sites with pre-release modules. This surprises me and I would like to hear other opinions.
