Hello Drupalians,
I have got a requirement from my client regarding a new website which will be a combined clone of amazon/ebay (auction/memberstores) and Elance. That is all the features of these websites incorporated in one single website.
Now, I am posed with the question - would it be worthwhile for me to build this website by creating custom drupal modules and theming ? Or is it better to learn a framework like zend or yii or symfony and use it in building the website. The main factors that are concerning me very much are -
1.Can Drupal take the high traffic/load that ebay/amazon can withstand ? If TRUE - will it be a painful process - in respect to time and effort (learning) compared to using a PHP framework like Zend or Yii or Symfony ? Which path will give me the required stability in least time ?
2.I am sure that high traffic websites like ebay/amazon run on multiple servers to distribute the traffic load. Can Drupal be configured
to work on multiple servers like those of ebay/amazon ? We will be using Amazon EC2 cloud servers (Ubuntu Linux) for deployment.
Is this a painstaking process compared to Zend/Yii/Symfony powered websites ?
3. Performance - Are PHP framework powered websites faster than Drupal ? Or will they produce the same results provided I use caching mechanism built within Drupal.
4. Which version of Drupal to use ? 6.x or 7.x ? I have found many posts on the internet stating Drupal 7 is slower than Drupal 6. Is this TRUE ?
If somebody who has a lot of experience in Drupal, shed some light on this subject, we will be highly grateful to the community
Thanks and regards,
Juggernaut
